A super plant for a vertical garden. Trailing lotus – great wall of living silver

hanging plants for vertical garden

Its a rare day when I buy plants at the supermarket but I made an allowance as these plants were in perfect condition for an instant vertical garden . The trails were well over 2 metres and in full red-pea flower.   For $60 aus I picked up three Trailing Lotus’ Lotus berthelotii at Woolworths in Melbourne’s CBD.

Will be interesting to watch how the Lotus plants perform but I have a feeling this lot will do well. Woolly Pockets provide the ideal habitat.

This plant likes well drained soils and is not tolerant of water logging -  a perfect plant for a wally pocket vertical garden. Thank goodness for wall planters – my soils are clay and the Trailing Lotus would hate to be located in ground.

If you live in the colder parts of the world (ie UK) protect these darlings from frost. These plants are from the Canary Islands – think hot, think sandy. But they can be located in partial shade.

So… are you using the hooded vents as planters in the above pictures? Whatever it is, they look terrific!
